The Communist Party of India (CPI) expresses its unwavering solidarity with the
ongoing struggle of farmers demanding a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support
Price (MSP). This legitimate demand is rooted in the fundamental rights of farmers to
secure fair prices for their produce and protect them from the exploitation of corporate
interests. The BJP government, instead of addressing the genuine concerns of the
agricultural community, has continuously neglected the agrarian crisis, leading to
increasing debts, suicides, and deepening poverty in rural India. The government's
apathy towards the plight of farmers is evident in its failure to bring in laws that
safeguard the interests of the farming community. The CPI condemns the government's
repeated inaction on the issue of MSP, which is a basic right of farmers and an
essential tool for ensuring their survival and dignity.
The CPI also strongly condemns the BJP government's heavy-handed tactics in
suppressing the peaceful protests of farmers, including the use of brutal force by the
police to silence dissent. The government’s response to the farmers' demands for
justice has been one of repression and intimidation, rather than engagement and
resolution. Farmers who are demanding nothing more than their rightful dues are being
treated as enemies of the state, facing unjust arrests, lathi charges, and even killings.
The CPI calls upon all democratic forces to unite and resist the authoritarian and anti-
farmer policies of the BJP government, and demands immediate legal guarantees for
MSP as well as justice for those who have been harmed in this struggle. We stand with
the farmers and their just cause and pledge to continue fighting for their rights until they
are victorious.
